.

. The Problem

Part One Of The Problem

  • Government legislation is set to put calorie counts on all menus.

  • Food producers don’t have the knowledge to deal with the complexity of nutritional and allergen reporting.

  • Most business still thinks that this is an unafforded process with to many permutations of the dishes they created to be analysed.

Managing the change and variety of products across multiple sales points make managing and displaying up to date dynamic nutritional information almost impossible for many businesses business.

The need to innovate

  • Companies could face fines, or be taken to court by their customers for not knowing the ingredients and allergens contained in their foods.

  • Companies need to manage more and more points of sale for the products they sell.

  • Companies need to innovate with the dishes and products they create, nutritional and allergen reporting should be an advantage, not a logistical hindrance.

Monitoring calories and the consumer reporting of all allergens contained requires businesses to know all the ingredients in the products they are using before aggregating the nutritional information and calculating the calories each combination of meals courses produce.

Manslaughter Conviction

  • Restaurants, Sandwich Shops, Takeaways and Hot Dog Stalls, in fact, any business that creates and sell food directly to the consumer is in scope.

  • The catering industry has the highest turnover of staff, training and relying on them to relay the correct information to the consumer cannot be relied on and could have devastating consequences.

Regardless of Government Plans

  • Most businesses wish to safeguard themselves, their customers and their businesses.

  • Delivering nutritional transparency and confidence to the consumers is important for a lot of businesses.
  • Food producers need help, they need an affordable solution and ongoing support to manage the nutritional elements of the recipes they create.

Business Owners Are Worried!

Regardless of the inevitable pressures applied by the government, food producers are worried trying to train staff, worried about taking time off, worried about delivering a consistent taste, innovating new menus and modifying portions. To date, only a small fraction of food producers have the time, knowledge, resources, or can afford to keep track of the nutritional values of the products they produce in this ever-changing industry. They also need the flexibility to innovate and exploit the many permutations of the dishes they serve and the ingredients they use.

Natasha’s Law Promised!

The major retailers are already making plans to implement this change, with Pret leading the way by training staff and labelling and reviewing the products they sell.

How big is the change

  • The notable change will be that instead of ordering a large or a small Kebab the consumer would select 600 or 800 calories as the portion option.

  • Any level of change requires the same basic information, the recipe and the quantity of each of the ingredients used.
  • The Problem is the same for all food producers and could prove time-consuming a very costly for the average food business.

"Would you like a large or small proportion sir"

Will soon to be replaced  with

"Would you like 450 or 700 calories?"

. The Market

The Problem is the same for all food producers and the remedy will always starts with the exact quantity of the ingredients contained in each recipe created. The Food Hygiene Rating Scheme for local authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland, list circa 450, 000 categorised business kitchens all with hygiene ratings from between zero to 5. The scheme helps the consumer choose where to eat out or shop for food by giving you clear information about the businesses’ food management and hygiene stanitvards.

NUTRITIONAL ANALYSIS

Our administration module has multilevel staff logins with complete audit trails allowing NutriSolve Ltd to manage staff in-house and sign off each recipe’s ingredients after mapping. This system tracks staff performance and allows certain staff members to work remotely as required with full accuracy and performance and payment measures in place. As each analyst completes a recipe it is submitted to a senior team member who then checks it, before releasing it to the subscriber for submission to their database of dishes.

The NutriAngel team works from a custom matrix control panel that displays ingredients to be mapped and checked. Each ingredient not previously mapped enters the timeline and is bounced back and forth as required until the subscriber confirms we have established the correct brand and products details as required.

Full logs are kept for all new ingredients added to either the main or just the subscriber’s database. By law, ultimately the subscriber is always responsible for the products reporting.

A range of nutritional reporting and labelling options are offered either by short-code which delivers dynamic updates to WordPress sites or copy and pasted into existing systems like Just Eat depending on what is required by legislation or the subscribing business.

Architecture & Technologies

Architecture & Technologies

HTML5 – CSS3 – PHP  – JQuery / Javascript – MySQL – Hardware – Linux Server(s)

The minimum hardware requirement to run the Carna software is One Unix based Web-server running, Apache, PHP and MySQL. Users require a device capable of web browsing.

Service Design

The system is designed with four key principles in mind: scalability, maintainability, extendibility, and ubiquitous compatibility. These key principles enable us to provide the best possible experience for all users. In order to do this, NutriAngle maintains the same level of service for every user, regardless of how many users are interacting with the service, and regardless of the devices those users choose to use to access the system.

Scalability

NutriSolve technologies are designed to scale as required this is especially important in the digital age, where it’s quite common for high user loads or ‘traffic spikes’ to bring down a website.

The software can run on a single Linux server (running Apache,PHP and MySQL) or alternately can be distributed across multiple servers. We are currently using cloud based technology to provide multiple servers to run the system. This is done by separating the software into service layers.

Layer One: Sales Website – This is the website anonymous users see, prompting the users to take action and become customers.

Layer Two: Registered Client Website – This website is seen by users who have become customers  by signing up to the first layer.

Layer Three: Web Services – This layer is a liaison layer between the Client Website and The Data layer. This layer is the core of the software system, the logic and calculations that run the system are within this layer.

Layer Four: Data – The storage layer, this layer provides a persistent data store for the web services layer.

In short, the first and second layers are capable of running as one or many websites, on one or many servers, as required by the needs of either business. For instance, by selling the product in a different way, or by usage needs (such as creating multiple instances of the same sales website to accommodate for ‘down time’ or high user loads ‘traffic spikes’).

The services layer interacts with the registered client’s layer and the data layer to provide the base software services. This layer runs representational state transfer, or ‘REST’-based services, each of which are stateless and run independently of other services. This enables the layer to be run on one or multiple servers, providing reliable service to as many clients as required. The data layer is an individual database server hosted on the same network as the services layer, and is optimised for database speed and concurrent connections.

Maintainability

All software is subject to maintenance, including routine backups and security updates. The separate layers of the system allow for maintenance tasks to be performed on servers whilst the service is live, meaning there is little or no need for the server to go into ‘maintenance mode’. This can include, but is not limited to, website changes, service security upgrades and bug fixes, alongside regular tasks such as backups of the data layer.

Extendability

Often a major problem with software is the difficulty in creating extensions to perform new tasks, or in updating existing services to perform differently. A major factor in this is the separation of the layers in the software. This means that new and existing websites can be integrated with NutriSolve service quickly and efficiently. The registered client’s layer can then be branded appropriately for the sales website to which it is linked. All of this can be done without modifying the services or the data layers. Providing the services layer in the REST-based format enables the easy development of new interfaces as and when required across multiple platforms. For instance, the development of a dedicated mobile application for users to interface with the system.

Ubiquitous Compatibility

The systems interface is built with the latest web technologies (HTML5, CSS3). The design is responsive and adapts to the device being used to access the software. This means that the functionality can be delivered seamlessly to a user across their entire range of devices; smartphones, tablets, laptop and desktop computers. The use of cutting edge interface development technologies such as HTML5 has enabled the best user experience for users using the latest internet enabled devices. With that in mind, we have also used fallback technologies to provide users with older devices the best possible experience offered via their device. An example of this is the graceful fallback of the rounded corners on the sales website, users with older browsers will see the same content but the corners of the content will be square not rounded.

Cloud Services

The software is designed to run on a cluster of cloud based servers, offering multiple identical instances of the same code. This has two major advantages, the first is reliability: if one server fails, another identical server takes over automatically. The second advantage is that running costs scale alongside business size dynamically, for example multiple server instances can be set up in the minutes.

All hosting will be transferred to Amazon Web-services (AWS). AWS provide full, out-of-the-box ISO27001 compliance as standard and at a minimum follow best practice relating to physical security and cyber security including hardware and software firewalls, intrusion detection etc. AWS’s best security best practices can be found here: https://d1.awsstatic.com/whitepapers/Security/AWS_Security_Whitepaper.pdf.  In addition, we adopt stringent and non-negotiable use of virus checkers and soft firewalls at both an OS and application platform level, full monitoring to detect events such as intrusion and DOS plus run regular backup and restore snapshots on databases and application servers. Furthermore, we will work hard to ensure that our clustering of application servers and databases remain within best-practices adopting practices such as ensuring data is never publicly exposed and that databases will be ring fenced within separate VPCs and within separate data centres. Databases are always stand-alone and data is held within encrypted-at-rest databases that are held within separate VPCs, are only accessible with relevant private key/IP access and for read/write are not publicly accessible (i.e. data is only accessible to the application servers). Database are fully backed up via regular automated snapshots, the snapshots are held within a separate, secure, key locked data source within a separate AWS data centre.  Our source code is held on an external Git repository and is managed by private key files and only accessible to selected personnel and selected application servers. Log files are also analysed and managed via a Zabbix installation with log files being sent to an external, secure S3 budget then destroyed once they have reached the end of their analysis cycle.

Public Health England

The food and grocery delivery market is booming. Last year, more than $1bn in the US alone was invested in online companies promising to improve the way we eat at home. These start-ups, in the vanguard of what is being called “fast food 2.0”, could even be, if you believe some of those involved, the future of how we eat.  It’s not entirely unrealistic – as populations increasingly become more urbanised, space and time is becoming ever more cramped (and expensive), with future kitchen areas barely big enough for a kettle. Longer working hours and time-strapped consumers means less interest in cooking from scratch after a day at work.

These days, you don’t even need to leave the comfort of your living room, as more and more restaurants offer take-out options to cash in on the growing market for fine dining at home. The demand for home deliveries of ready-to-eat food grew 10 times faster than for dining out last year, according to figures just released, and food delivery apps specialising in restaurant-quality meals are seeing a huge jump in popularity.

According to analysts NPD Group, the delivery sector rose almost 10% to 599m visits in the UK last year, while total visits to restaurants and other dining venues rose by just 1%. The delivery channel was worth £3.6bn last year, a 6% increase on 2015 and 50% more than in 2008.

But this is not all good news for many companies both large and small. Cancer Research UK has warned of the risks of weight gain and obesity linked to the consumption of fast food and ready meals, which tend to have a high calorie content and higher levels of fat and sugar.

Figures released last month by the charity show that at least 79m ready meals and 22m fast-food and takeaway meals are eaten weekly by adults in the UK. Young adults aged 18-24 are more likely to rely on convenience meals, and are seven times more likely to indulge in fast food and takeaways at least once a week compared with the over-65s.

Alison Cox, Cancer Research UK’s director of prevention, said the figures showed that “grab and go” foods and a growing appetite for takeaways and ready meals were helping to propel people towards an epidemic of larger waistlines.

“The whole food industry needs to step up and commit to working with government to cut the amount of fat and sugar in our food.

This would make it that bit easier for all of us to become healthier and reduce our cancer risks,” she said. By the end of Q2 The Department of Health will unveil plans to at least display the number of calories in every meal to enable people to make “informed and healthy choices for themselves and their family”

Calorie and Food Allergen Reporting

Public health minister Steve Brine

Plans to see how nutrient and calorie labelling can be introduced in restaurants, cafes and takeaways have been opened up for public consultation. Views on how calorie labelling can apply to online firms that sell takeaway or home delivery dishes is now part of a final 9-week consultation.

Calorie labelling, which is often found on packaged foods in supermarkets, may help give families an informed choice and has been hailed by diabetes experts as obesity is a key risk factor for developing Type 2 diabetes, according to public health minister Steve Brine.

He said: “Families want to know what they are eating when on the go, but in many cafes, restaurants and takeaways this information is not available. “This is not about forcing anyone to eat certain things, or companies to behave in a certain way, but I firmly believe we have a right to know the nutritional content of the food we eat and give to our children.

“Type 2 diabetes is on the rise, and is often both preventable and reversible with the correct diet.“That’s why we are taking action through this consultation.

Public health minister Steve Brine

Halve Childhood Obesity by 2030

Source date Fri 14 Sep 2018

The proposals, which are part of the Government’s strategy to halve childhood obesity by 2030, are aimed at ensuring that calorie labelling is consistently available in takeaways, restaurants and other points of sale so the public has enough information to make healthy choices wherever they may choose to eat. It is also seen as a helpful tool to help cut the amount of calories that are bought and eaten which is particularly important as many people underestimate the amount of calories in their food. Views on how small businesses, street vendors and restaurants with fast changing menus should be tackling the proposal are also being sought in the consultation. The Department of Health & Social Care points out that food and drink bought in supermarkets is already labelled with nutritional information, and that some restaurants and cafes already take a similar approach but this is on a voluntary basis. With 25% of all calories now consumed on the go it is inevitable that the requirements for product labelling will be redefined to fit the criteria followed by major super market.

Public Health England’s chief nutritionist Dr Alison Tedstone said:

https://www.itv.com/news/

“Eating out has become the norm, meaning around a quarter of our calories come from food on the go, restaurants and takeaways.“Clear and visible information at the point of choice is important to help us understand what we are buying and to make healthier choices – this will help protect children from obesity and future ill health.”

BBC News 23 October 2018

UK high streets have the highest concentration of fast food outlets in almost a decade, figures show.

Despite town halls attempting to limit their spread through planning applications, in most areas the number of takeaways per 100,000 people was at its highest since 2010. Research suggests people most exposed to them are nearly twice as likely to be obese. Proposals to introduce calorie labels on menus could hit independent shops by the summer of 2019. Figures provided to the Guardian by Cambridge University’s Centre for Diet and Activity Research (Cedar), there are now 56,638 takeaways in England – more than a quarter of all the country’s food outlets in the UK– with some of the heaviest concentrations of fast food found in England’s poorest and most deprived neighborhood’s.

The Government is committed

SOARING obesity rates could “bankrupt” the NHS after spending on prescriptions for diabetes alone topped £1billion last year. Experts estimates the real cost was ten times higher as the NHS deals with complications from the disease, including strokes, blindness and amputations. Robin Hewings, of Diabetes UK, said: “The real price we have to pay for diabetes is not just medications but the devastating and expensive complications.

“It is estimated the total NHS cost is over £10 billion a year.”

Churn Rate

Churn or attrition rate is estimated at 5% in the financial projections, once a subscriber has entered their recipes they are effectively compelled to continue with their subscription which will allow them to add new dishes, create aggregated nutritional information for combinations of dishes and meal courses, offer various portions sizes, and dishes like vegan or free from meals with ease along with the ability to accurately predict and order the foods they require each day.us

Summary

NutriAngel offers 3 levels of monthly subscription to food producers using the services provided by its staff, combined with its software as a service system. Once a subscriber has added their recipes the system delivers complete complaint nutritional reporting for what every they decide to create. The subscriber can then upgrade their subscription and benefit form additional cost savings in both the production and  product purchasing. Marketing NutriAngel subscriptions are based on compliance and cost savings to any food producing business.

In return for the above assignment and the payment of a licence fee of £36,000 per year (exclusive of VAT). The licences exclude the use of Carna for the field of personalised diet plans and weight loss direct to home food delivery programmes (the “Field”) in the UK only and are non-exclusive in all other areas and fields. The Carna IP

Carna Currently Powers a number of Business Units

www.bodychef.com www.myfood.co.uk

www.sixpax.co.uk www.rainbowbox.co.uk

Carna has served to place Bodychef at the very forefront of the world’s home-delivery diet industry. It offers clients a truly bespoke fresh food solution, one that ensures every diet plan is perfectly calorie-controlled and nutritionally-balanced and monitored to suit the tastes, needs and objectives of each and every dieter.Carna® is currently in it’s fourth version after to delivering over a decade of uninterrupted service to the Bodychef Ltd. The potential sales revenue are not included as in scope in the business plans however it remains a considerable asset that will revisit as soon as resources allow.

The process is simple: firstly, customers create a free account with Carna, then they proceed to input a few basic details about their dietary requirements. These include any relevant information concerning their religion and/or their medical history, both of which could affect the foods they’re able to consume. Customers then input their height and weight, which allows Carna to work out their BMI. Using this information, Carna then informs the client of their ideal target weight loss, and formulates a meal plan to achieve this. Carna will then calculate the time taken to achieve this weight loss, which will, of course, vary depending on the individual client.

Each meal plan is specially-formulated to take into account all of the customer’s dietary preferences and requirements. Using the information inputted by the user, Carna will automatically customise and intelligently rebalance meal plans depending on requirements. Each of these meal plans will be calorie-controlled and created to achieve optimum nutritional value.

But this didn’t all happen overnight. Carna has, in fact, been in development for over 12 years. Beginning life as a simple Excel spreadsheet, the system has evolved over the years to take into account any dietary preference or requirement. This slow-but-steady process of development has turned Carna into one of the most advanced and pioneering software system of its kind. As a result, Bodychef is able to offer a great deal more choice and personalisation than any like-for-like competitors in the business today. Indeed, it’s certainly true that no competitors are in possession of software which is able to control the ordering, distribution, and management process in quite the same way as Carna. And this is especially true when it comes to the dynamic nature of the system, meaning that a customer can be logging on and entering details just hours before the delivery of a personalised nutritionally monitored total eating plan is delivered direct to their door.

When it comes to Bodychef as a business, Carna is a vital asset. Whether it’s managing online orders, stock control, dealing with client communication, or even automatically sanitising each customer’s meal plan, Carna plays an important role.

As a result, of this range of functions, the administrator is able to control a great deal of the company’s workings through Carna. For instance, leads generation, food costs, and the popularity of a diet plans can all be tracked using the system. In addition, customers themselves get to experience some of the advantages of Carna through their personal accounts. When initially signing up to Bodychef, customers create a free account with Carna in order to enter all relevant details which could affect their diet plan. To do this, they’re guided through a series of push-button screens using the system’s easy-to-use interface.

And users don’t even need to be customers to see the advantages of the system, either. Before deciding to use Bodychef, would-be customers can create a free account on the site which will allow them to personalise any one of around 30 base diet plans available to suit their exact dietary requirements

The Circles IP

Circles SaaS is a meal planning system that adapts to any eating style based on the principles of low salt, low sugar and non processed foods. It is a solution that promotes the purchase of local fresh produce in the quantities that either an individual, couple or entire families need to consume. It’s design and creation ensures that it delivers and instructs anyone wishing to adopt a healthier controlled way of eating. Circles can power a range of websites all accessed by Android and IOS web apps that deliver personalised solutions designed for any market sector defined by the diet plans and food that are entered into the system ready for personalisation.

The Carna IP

Carna® is currently in it’s fourth version after to delivering over a decade of uninterrupted service to the Bodychef Ltd. The potential sales revenue are not included as in scope in the business plans however it remains a considerably asset that will revisited as soon as resources allow.

Carna has served to place Bodychef at the very forefront of the world’s home-delivery diet industry. It offers clients a truly bespoke fresh food solution, one that ensures every diet plan is perfectly calorie-controlled and nutritionally-balanced and monitored to suit the tastes, needs and objectives of each and every dieter.

Our History

The team’s first diet planning and nutritional management system was first innovated in 2003 when Russell, the Nutrisolve MD’s wife Jayne Ritchie decided to start the Bodychef Ltd as the first fresh food home delivery diet company in the UK. It was not long before the concept became a reality. They converted part of their home into a production kitchen to get started. Once started, there was no stopping them, and as the news of the new venture became public the company started to grow. Having already accumulated over a decade in software development Russell naturally headed up the development of the first system naming it Carna® after the greek god of vitality. The progression of the system has evolved within sight of the everyday kitchen and business operations. To date the functionality Carna offers delivers the consumer an unprecedented level of nutritionally monitored personalisation across over 40 total eating plans. The customer simply selects options such as lifestyle, allergens, ingredient, dish and food group exclusions. Then Carna considers the users preferences and crunches the numbers, personalising each plan before producing menus and reporting on all nutrients before  presenting the custom menus for the customer to review before deciding which diet plan to have delivered direct to their door.

This functionality is actually just the tip of the iceberg. Once an order is placed Carna takes over, automating the entire production and creation of thousands of meals that make up the nutritionally monitored fresh food diet plans that company then delivers. It manages the supply chain while cleverly aggregating ingredient and dish preparation, distributing jobs while  communicating the production process directly to each customer through to delivery direct to their doors.

The Bodychef Ltd users the Carna system under licence for personalised home delivery diet plan in the UK. To date the company directors claim that the level of personalisation and aggregated nutritional reporting capabilities of the Carna system remains unexampled globally in the home delivery diet plan industry.

Russell Ritchie MD of Nutrisolve Ltd setup the company in 2014, to exploit the technologies and experience gained to create a range of self financed SaaS based nutritional solutions for sale direct to the consumer. Around 18 months ago NutriSolve predicted the potential of the NutriAngel concept and placed its investment plans on hold going back to the drawing board to create and finance the creation of the NutriSolve system NutriAngel.

The delivery channel was worth £3.6bn last year, a 6% increase on 2015 and 50% more than in 2008.

https://www.npdgroup.co.uk

By the end of Q2 The Department of Health will unveil plans to at least display the number of calories in every meal to enable people to make "informed and healthy choices for themselves and their family”

"It is estimated the total NHS cost is over £10 billion a year.”
